Winter is the slow time for photography (and blogging) — unless you're busy photographing winter sports and other events. With the Kalamazoo Wings over half way through their season, and the 2015 USA Curling Nationals coming up; I've managed to set aside some time to photograph an event that's a little closer to the heart.
I was asked to donate some time to help cover the Southwest Michigan Go Red for Women luncheon held at the Radisson Plaza Hotel & Suites in Kalamazoo, MI. Not to be confused with Bono's (RED™), Go Red for Women is an initiative of the American Heart Association to raise funding and awareness for Heart Disease in women.
The Southwest Michigan Go Red for Women Luncheon is a very popular auction and fundraising event for the Southwest Michigan Go Red chapter. This year the luncheon and auction entertained a myriad of guests, from Congressman Fred Upton and Governor Rick Snyder's wife Sue Snyder, to many local figures from the Southwest Michigan area. All of the attendees are gathered to hear several presenters speak, hear survivor stories, to learn how to create a legacy in preventing Heart Disease, and to share the mission of fighting the No. 1 killer of women.
This event was important to me personally, as Heart Disease is something that my family, and friends have personally dealt with over the years. It was fantastic to see such a passionate group of women (and men) come together to raise funding to help overcome the leading cause of death in America.
All in all it was an energy packed morning with many smiles and positive energy, that carried on through the auction, luncheon and after. It was an event that I was happy to donate my time photographing. Stay tuned to the blog as the 2015 Curling Nationals are this week and I'll be covering the event.
